In 2018, two of our leading trial attorneys – Robert Spohrer and Matthew Spohrer – secured a $13.5 million jury verdict for a client who lost part of his arm in a commercial meat saw accident. Now, that verdict has been included as one of the Top 100 Personal Injury Verdicts in 2018!
Issued by TopVerdict.com, the Top 100 Personal Injury Verdicts list includes the most significant and high-stakes cases tried in the United States each year, both in federal and in state courts. On behalf of our entire team at Spohrer Dodd, we’re honored to be included on this list – and we’re proud that we were able to help our client by winning fair compensation for his case.
As a professional meat cutter with over 30 years of industry experience, our client Danny Crawford was skilled at using dangerous meat-cutting equipment. In spite of this advanced knowledge, he still lost the lower part of his right arm on a commercial meat saw with an obsolete and dangerous guard design.
The saw was manufactured by ITW Food Equipment Group, LLC, and throughout the jury trial, our attorneys proved that this company failed to do basic research & development, and ignored government records of similar incidents. The jury concluded that ITW was negligent, and held the company partly responsible for Mr. Crawford’s preventable accident.
Although Danny suffered a workplace injury and would normally only receive workers’ compensation benefits, he was able to collect more appropriate compensation under product liability laws. When the manufacturers of commercial equipment fail to meet basic engineering safety standards, they can be held responsible for injuries to the working men and women using the equipment.
As product liability attorneys serving clients in Jacksonville and nationwide, we’re always ready to help those who have been injured by faulty products. With over 150 years of combined legal experience, we aim to maximize our clients’ compensation by fighting for a fair outcome in every trial.
